How exciting! You are adopting a kitten and almost ready to bring your new furry friend home with you. But before you do, you should be prepared with some basic items to get started. Here is a new kitten checklist with everything you need to get your home ready for the arrival of your new kitty, and to care for them every day afterwards. New Kitten Essentials:
Your new kitten will likely not be fully vaccinated yet and shouldn’t interact with other kittens until he or she is, but while at home with you, it’s a great time to familiarize kitty with you, your home and their new collar/harness and leash. If you start early, kittens do great with a harness and leash! A tag with your pet’s name, your name, address and phone number are essential.
Additional items include food and water bowls, toys and a quality carrier. I own this carrier (for my dogs) and absolutely LOVE it! I get so many compliments, especially at the vet’s office and get asked to send someone a link to where I purchased it. For a kitten or cat, go with the small carrier. It’s the perfect size!
Lastly, keep in mind that your new kitten may be stressed coming into your home. Giving them a few new toys will help ease their stress and make them feel welcome!

Expect the unexpected and be prepared for your new kittens’s medical needs. Additionally, research the closest veterinarian, 24 hour emergency veterinary clinic and map out (or drive) the routes ahead of time.
